3,4'-Oxydianiline (3,4'-ODA, CAS 2657-87-6) from Ossila is an asymmetric diamine monomer with purity above 99%. Its structure is a diphenyl ether bearing one amine group in the para position and one in the meta position, giving two reactive amine ends for straightforward coupling reactions. It is supplied as a pale yellow to reddish yellow powder or crystal.
The main use of 3,4'-ODA is as an intermediate for multifunctional polyimides. The meta-positioned amine disrupts close packing between polymer chains, so the resulting polyimides are transparent and suitable as display substrates. With thermal stability of 210 °C, these films can also serve as substrates for sintering integrated devices.
Beyond polyimide films, this building block is used to prepare organic porous materials reaching BET surface areas of up to 351 m2/g, and polyetherimide membranes made from it have proven effective for pervaporation separation of water and isopropanol. It is also listed for the synthesis of COFs, OLED and organic photovoltaic materials.
- Synthesis of transparent polyimide films for use as display substrates.
- Preparation of heat-stable polyimide substrates for sintering integrated devices.
- Synthesis of organic porous materials with BET surface areas up to 351 m2/g.
- Fabrication of polyetherimide pervaporation membranes for water-isopropanol separation.
- Building block for COFs, OLED and organic photovoltaic materials.
