3,5-Difluoropyridine-2-carbonitrile (CAS 298709-29-2), also called 3,5-difluoropicolinonitrile or 2-cyano-3,5-difluoropyridine, is a cyanopyridine carrying two fluorine atoms. Ossila supplies it as white crystals at >97% purity for use as a heterocyclic and fluorinated building block in organic synthesis.
Because the ring is strongly electron deficient, both fluorine positions are readily displaced through nucleophilic aromatic substitution. This route has been used to make the TADF emitter 2,4-2(9H-carbazol-9-yl)-1-cyano-pyridine, which in OLED devices reached a maximum current efficiency of 27.5 cdA -1, power efficiency of 25.6 lmW -1 and external quantum efficiency of 9.1%.
In medicinal chemistry the compound acts as a molecular scaffold, for example in preparing thiazole analogs of desferrithiocin, and it also serves as a precursor for active pharmaceutical ingredients.
- Synthesis of thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) emitters for OLEDs via nucleophilic aromatic substitution.
- Preparation of thiazole analogs of desferrithiocin in medicinal chemistry.
- Precursor for active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) in drug discovery.
- Fluorinated heterocyclic building block for biochemistry research.
