3,6-bis(5-bromothiophen-2-yl)-2,5-bis(2-octyldodecyl)pyrrolo[3,4-c]pyrrole-1,4(2H,5H)-dione (DPP-OD-2ThBr, CAS 1260685-63-9) is a bromide-capped pyrrolopyrrole building block supplied at >98% purity. It is used to build donor-acceptor polymers for organic semiconductors, organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) and solar cells.
The molecule is built around a diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) core, a strong acceptor unit with a flat, conjugated bicyclic structure. This planarity promotes stronger π–π interactions, giving chemists a way to adjust the band gap and energy levels of the resulting polymer. The two 2-octyldodecyl side chains improve polymer solubility and support crystallization and aggregation in thin-film devices.
Ossila chemists have used this monomer in-house to prepare PDPP4T and the high-mobility p-type polymer DPP-DTT. It has also been copolymerised by Stille coupling with 5,5'-di(thiophen-2-yl)-2,2'-biselenophene to give PDPP-alt-DTBSe, a copolymer reported with 1.5 cm2/Vs hole mobility in thin-film transistors. The material is a dark purple solid.
