3,6-Dibromothieno[3,2-b]thiophene (TT36), CAS 392662-65-6, is a brominated thienothiophene intermediate used to synthesise organic semiconductors. Its thieno[3,2-b]thiophene core carries bromine groups at the 3,6-positions of the fused rings, giving chemists reactive handles for building larger semiconducting molecules, oligomers and conjugated polymers aimed at OFETs, sensors, OLEDs and OPVs.
The compound is obtained through a halogen dance reaction, in which 2,5-dibromothieno[3,2-b]thiophene is treated with lithium diisopropyl amide (LDA). Its planar, symmetrical framework and easily modified functional groups make it useful for tuning electronic properties. Alkyl or aryl groups can be introduced at the 3,6-positions by Negishi cross-coupling with RMBr reagents (R = alkyl or aryl, M = Zn).
Ossila supplies TT36 with a purity of >98%, determined by 1H NMR in CDCl3, as a fluffy white to off-white powder with a melting point of 127.0 °C.
