35DCzPPy, or 3,5-bis(3-(carbazol-9-yl)phenyl)pyridine, is a widely used bipolar host material for organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). Supplied by Ossila at a purity above 98.0% as a white powder or crystals, it serves as a host matrix for phosphorescent emitters in organic electronic devices.
The molecule pairs a carbazole donor unit, which offers high triplet energy and supports hole injection and transport, with a pyridine acceptor unit, which has high electron affinity and supports electron injection and transport. This combination of donor and acceptor parts is what makes it a bipolar host.
35DCzPPy is an isomer of 26DCzPPy; the two differ in where the central pyridine ring is functionalised. Because 35DCzPPy is more electron-rich, 26DCzPPy shows a more balanced injection and transport of holes and electrons. Reported devices using 35DCzPPy as host include blue emitters with FIrpic reaching an EQE of 19.1% at 100 cd/m2, as well as green and red phosphorescent devices.
- Host material for blue phosphorescent OLEDs doped with FIrpic.
- Host for green phosphorescent OLEDs using Ir(ppy)3 as the emitter.
- Host for red phosphorescent OLEDs using Ir(piq)3 as the emitter.
- Bipolar charge transport layer material in organic electronic devices.
- Homojunction OLED structures where the same host is used in doped transport and emitting layers.
