3DPA2FBN, or 2,4,6-Tris(diphenylamino)-3,5-difluorobenzonitrile (CAS 1403850-00-9), is a metal-free cyanoarene photosensitizer with thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF). It is supplied as a yellow powder or crystals in unsublimed grade with a purity above 98.0% by 1H NMR.
The molecule carries three diphenylamine donor groups arranged meta to one another on a benzene core, with two fluorine atoms and one cyano group placed between them. This donor–acceptor layout makes it a useful photocatalyst for visible-light driven single electron transfer (SET), with activation at 455 nm and emission at 491 nm in acetonitrile.
3DPA2FBN is closely related to 3DPAFIPN: both share three DPA donors and have similar oxidation potentials and HOMO levels. Because 3DPA2FBN replaces one cyano group with a fluorine atom, it is a somewhat weaker ground-state oxidant than 3DPAFIPN, giving chemists another option when tuning redox conditions. It has been reported as the photosensitizer in umpolung carboxylation of α-ketoamides and α-ketoesters with CO2 under mild conditions.
