3PATAT-C3 (CAS 3048690-10-1) is a self-assembled monolayer (SAM) molecule with a tripodal design, used as a hole transport or hole extraction layer in inverted (p-i-n) perovskite solar cells and non-fullerene acceptor polymer solar cells. Each molecule carries three phosphonic acid anchors linked through n-propyl spacers to a single triazatruxene head group.
Because all three anchors bind to the electrode, the π-conjugated triazatruxene terminal is held face-on towards the anode. This orientation lets it pick up holes from the perovskite layer more effectively than the edge-on arrangement typical of single-anchor SAMs. Reported devices with this material reached a PCE of 23.0%, against 21.0% for MeO-2PACz-based devices, and showed no PCE loss after more than 2000 h of shelf-stability testing.
The material can replace PEDOT:PSS as a hole-selective contact and is deposited from dilute solutions such as 1 mM. Common solvents include DMF, THF, IPA, ethanol and methanol. A coating from 1 mM DMF solution on ITO gives a surface density of 2.9 × 10^13 molecules cm–2 and raises the water contact angle from 8° to 75°. It is supplied as a white to grey powder or crystals with purity above 98% (HPLC).
