3TPYMB, or Tris(2,4,6-trimethyl-3-(pyridin-3-yl)phenyl)borane (CAS 929203-02-1), is a boron-containing small molecule used as an electron-transport layer (ETL) in organic electronic devices. Ossila supplies it as a sublimed white powder or crystals with a purity above 99.0% by HPLC.
Its LUMO sits at 3.3 eV, slightly below the work function of common cathodes such as CsF/Al, so electrons pass easily into the device instead of building up at the interface. A deep HOMO of 6.8 eV lets the same layer stop holes from reaching the cathode, giving it a dual role as a hole blocker.
With a triplet energy of 2.95 eV, 3TPYMB is also suited to phosphorescent host and TADF work. It appears in published red and blue OLED stacks, including exciplex devices with m-MTDATA, and as a thin electron interfacial layer in perovskite solar cells.
- Electron-transport layer in vacuum-deposited OLEDs.
- Hole-blocking layer placed between the emissive layer and the cathode.
- Host or co-host component in phosphorescent and TADF light-emitting devices.
- Exciplex-forming acceptor paired with donors such as m-MTDATA.
- Electron interfacial layer in perovskite solar cells.
