4,4'-((4-(4,4,5,5-Tetramethyl-1,3,2-dioxaborolan-2-yl)phenyl)azanediyl)dibenzaldehyde (CAS 2009169-65-5) is a triphenylamine-based building block used in the synthesis of covalent organic frameworks (COFs), aggregation-induced emission (AIE) molecules, metal-COF complexes and dyes for dye-sensitized solar cells. It is supplied as a yellow to orange powder with a purity above 98%.
The molecule combines two kinds of reactive site on one triphenylamine core. A pinacolborane (Bpin) group allows Suzuki cross-coupling, while the two aldehyde groups can take part in aldol and amination reactions, making the compound suitable for cross-linked COF networks and for post-functionalization.
In published work it has served as the linker joining dimethylpyranyldene-malononitrile and anthracene units in the AIE molecule TPA-AN-TPM, which forms ultrabright red AIE dots with an absolute quantum yield of 12.9%. It has also been used to make a triphenylamine-linked bisthiazole dye; DSSCs based on this dye reached a current density of 13.60 mA/cm -2, a fill factor of 58.2%, an open-circuit voltage of 620 mV and a power conversion efficiency of 4.94%.
- Building block for cross-linked covalent organic framework (COF) networks using its aldehyde and Bpin groups.
- Linker in the synthesis of aggregation-induced emission molecules such as TPA-AN-TPM for red AIE dots.
- Precursor for triphenylamine-linked bisthiazole dyes used in dye-sensitized solar cells.
- Ligand for the preparation of metal-COF complexes.
- Substrate for Suzuki coupling, aldol and amination reactions in organic synthesis.
