4,4',4'',4'''-(9H-Carbazole-1,3,6,8-tetrayl)tetrabenzoic acid, known as H4CzTB, is a tetracarboxylic acid ligand used to construct metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). Its carbazole core carries four 4-benzoic acid arms at the 1, 3, 6 and 8 positions, giving the molecule a star-shaped geometry suited to linking metal clusters.
This linker has been used with Fe3O clusters to form the mesoporous framework PCN-668, which combines nanoscale cage-like building units with one-dimensional (1D) channels, where adjacent cages are mutual diastereomers. Exchanging the metal to chromium after synthesis improves acid stability: PCN-668-Cr remains highly stable in acidic and basic aqueous solutions across pH = 1–11. The mesoporous framework also reached a total gravimetric methane uptake of ∼ 500 cm3 g-1 at 100 bar.
The material is supplied as a pale yellow powder or crystal with a purity of >97%, in 500 mg, 1 g and 5 g pack sizes.
