4',4''',4''''',4'''''''-(Ethene-1,1,2,2-tetrayl)tetrakis([1,1'-biphenyl]-4-carbaldehyde), also known as TABPE, ETTBC or TPE-Ph-CHO, is a four-armed aldehyde building block for covalent organic frameworks (COFs) and related porous polymers. Its butterfly-shaped structure places four 1,1'-biphenyl-4-carbaldehyde arms around a central ethene double bond, giving a cross-linking node for extended networks.
The aldehyde groups take part readily in polycondensation, forming imine or carbon-carbon double bond linkages. Reported materials made from this linker include a vinylidene-linked conjugated polymer that, combined with carbon nanotubes, served as an anode delivering 550 mA h g −1 at 100 mA g −1 and held its capacity over 500 cycles; a yellow-emitting sp2-carbon COF with a solid-state PLQY of 39.2% used as a phosphor in white LEDs; and a superhydrophobic ether-based polymer that, coated on polyurethane sponge, took up oils up to 82 times its own weight.
Ossila supplies the compound at >97% purity as a bright yellow greenish powder or crystals, in 500 mg and 1 g packs.
