4,4',4'',4'''-(Pyrene-1,3,6,8-tetrayltetrakis(ethyne-2,1-diyl))tetraaniline, also known as TAEPy, is an amine-functional bridging linker used to construct covalent organic frameworks (COFs). Its structure places a pyrene centre at the heart of the molecule, with a 4-ethynylaniline arm attached at each of the 1, 3, 6 and 8 positions. The material is supplied at >97% purity as a brown to orange to red powder or crystals.
Pyrene-based amine linkers of this type are studied in COF research because the resulting frameworks can offer large surface area, high crystallinity, strong stability and useful photoelectric activity. The amine groups are highly reactive, making the compound suitable for building cross-linked COF and MOF networks.
One reported example is COF-JLU22, formed by combining TAEPy with the electron-poor linker 4,7-formyldiphenylbenzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole (FDPBT). This donor–acceptor framework shows thermal, chemical and photochemical robustness, a large pore volume and a red-shifted absorption that boosts photocatalytic performance.
- Synthesis of pyrene-based covalent organic frameworks with high crystallinity and surface area.
- Preparation of donor–acceptor COFs such as COF-JLU22 with the FDPBT linker.
- Photocatalytic reductive dehalogenation of phenacyl bromide derivatives using TAEPy-derived COFs.
- Photocatalysed enantioselective α-alkylation of aldehydes.
- Construction of cross-linked amine-based COF and MOF networks.
