4,4',4''-(Benzene-1,3,5-triyltris(ethyne-2,1-diyl))trianiline, known as TETAB, is a star-shaped amine building block for covalent organic frameworks (COFs). Its central benzene ring carries three 4-ethynylaniline arms at the 1,3,5-positions, giving a rigid trigonal linker suited to cross-linked framework networks. It is supplied as a dark yellow powder or crystals with a purity above 98%.
The terminal amine groups take part readily in polycondensation, forming imine or amide linkages. Researchers have used TETAB to build COFs for light-driven reduction of O2 and CO2. Condensing it with 2,2'-bipyridine-5,5'-dicarbaldehyde produces the imine-linked OMHS-COF-Co, a photocatalyst reported to convert CO2 to CO at up to 15 874 µmol g−1 h−1 with 92.4% selectivity and strong cycling stability.
Reaction with 1,3,5-triformylphloroglucinol gives the one-dimensional TP–TTA–COF, featuring stable β-ketoenamine linkages and many alkynyl groups. Coordinating platinum from H2PtCl6·6H2O to this framework yields PtCl-COF, a photocatalyst for enhanced hydrogen peroxide production.
