4,4',4''-(Benzene-1,3,5-triyltris(ethyne-2,1-diyl))tribenzaldehyde, often shortened to BTETBA (CAS 2289758-98-9), is an electron-rich C3-type aldehyde monomer used as a linker for covalent organic frameworks (COFs). Its structure places three 4-formylphenylethynyl arms at the meta positions of a central benzene ring, giving a trigonal building block for cross-linked COF networks. It is supplied at >97% purity as a white to off-white powder or fibrous/crystalline solid.
In published work, the ethynyl bridges built into the conjugated backbone of the metal-free BTETBA-COF improved π-conjugation as well as the separation and transfer of photogenerated charges. This framework photoreduced CO2 in a solid-gas setup using only CO2 and water vapour, reaching a CO production rate of 382.0 µmol g−1 h−1, among the highest reported for additive-free catalysts.
A related framework, BTETBA-TRz-COF, combines spatially separated triazine and acetylene units with carbon-carbon double bond linkages. This arrangement suppresses charge recombination and supports electron transport through the skeleton, making it effective for photocatalytic H2O2 production.
