4,4'-(Benzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole-4,7-diyl)dianiline, commonly abbreviated BTDA (CAS 1203707-77-0), is a diamine building block used to construct covalent organic frameworks (COFs) and other cross-linked networks. Its structure pairs an electron-poor benzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole centre with aniline groups attached at the 4 and 7 positions, making it a useful acceptor unit in donor–acceptor materials. The terminal amines react readily, for example in Schiff-base condensations with aldehydes.
Published work shows its range. Combined with the calix[4]arene donor CHO-C4A, it forms the 2D framework COF-C4A-BTD, which removed bisphenol A, rhodamine B and methylene blue at 66%, 85% and 99% respectively. Condensation with 1,3,5-triformylphloroglucinol gives CoNi–COF-3, reported to produce CO from CO2 at 2567 μmol g –1 h –1 with 92.2% selectivity.
A one-step Schiff reaction with 4-(diethylamino)-salicylaldehyde yields DSABBT, an aggregation-induced emission probe with strong singlet oxygen generation, studied for image-guided photodynamic therapy. Ossila supplies BTDA as an orange to red powder or crystals at >98% purity.
