4,4'-(Benzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole-4,7-diyl)dibenzoic acid, also known as H2BTDB (CAS 1581774-76-6), is a rigid, linear organic linker for constructing metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). Its structure places a 4-benzoic acid group at each of the 4- and 7-positions of an electron-deficient benzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole core. It is supplied by Ossila as a yellow powder or crystal with purity above 98%.
Published work shows this ligand forming fluorescent frameworks with several metals. A Eu-based MOF with a large pore structure detected ethylamine and gossypol at limits of 1.30 μm and 4.32 μm. The Eu framework JXUST-11 responds to Al3+ and Ga3+ through fluorescence enhancement (2.9 and 10.2 ppm), while the Cd(II) framework JXUST-14 senses L-histidine through turn-on emission and a blue shift, reaching 11.1 ppm.
In a Zr-based MOF with UiO-68 topology, H2BTDB enabled selective sensing of 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (TNP) among competing nitroaromatic compounds, with a detection limit of 1.63 ppm in methanol suspension. The quenching is linked to energy and electron transfer plus interactions between TNP hydroxyl groups and the ligand's Lewis basic nitrogen sites.
