4',5'-Bis(4-aminophenyl)-[1,1':2',1''-terphenyl]-4,4''-diamine (BAPTPDA, CAS 2458125-05-6) is a tetratopic amine building block used to assemble covalent organic frameworks (COFs). Its central benzene ring carries four aniline groups at the 1,2,4,5-positions, giving a cross-shaped terphenyl geometry that suits cross-linked framework networks. Ossila supplies it at >97% purity as an off-white to beige powder or crystals.
The four amine groups react readily in polycondensation with aldehydes or acids, most commonly forming imine linkages. Researchers have used Schiff base condensation of BAPTPDA with 2,5-dihydroxy-1,4-benzenedicarboxaldehyde to prepare a magnetic Fe3O4@COF composite that is stable, recyclable and able to extract aflatoxins AFM1 and AFM2 from milk quickly, with negligible matrix effect, before sensitive analysis.
Imine-linked COFs built from this linker have also been studied as photocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction, where the orientation of the imine nitrogen influences local charge polarization, exciton dissociation and charge separation.
