4′-Fluoro-3′-nitroacetophenone (CAS 400-93-1), also known as 1-(4-fluoro-3-nitrophenyl)ethanone, is an acetophenone derivative carrying both a fluoro and a nitro substituent. Supplied by Ossila at >98% purity as light brown crystals, it is a versatile building block for drug discovery, medicinal chemistry and biochemistry.
Its three functional groups (fluoride, nitro and ketone) can each be modified independently, making the compound a convenient scaffold for active pharmaceutical ingredients. In one reported route to a Trypanosoma cruzi inhibitor, relevant to Chagas disease, the fluoride undergoes nucleophilic aromatic substitution, the ketone is aminated and the nitro group is reduced; the final compound showed a potency of 8 nM against Tc infection.
The molecule is also used to build bicyclic heterocycles such as chromen derivatives. It is available in 5 g, 10 g, 25 g and 50 g packs.
