4CzFCN, or 2,3,4,6-Tetra(9H-carbazol-9-yl)-5-fluorobenzonitrile (CAS 1819362-10-1), is a thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) emitter that produces blue light. It is supplied as a sublimed deep yellow powder or crystals with a purity above 99.0% by HPLC.
Structurally it is closely related to the green emitter 4CzIPN, except that a fluorine atom takes the place of one cyano group. Because fluorine withdraws electrons less strongly than a nitrile, the emission shifts towards blue. The fluorine also makes the molecule more hydrophobic and more soluble, so 4CzFCN can be processed from solution in most aromatic solvents.
In a 10 wt% CzSi host its calculated PLQY reaches 100%, with a small ΔEST of 0.06 eV. A reported solution-processed device using 4CzFCN in a CDBP host achieved a maximum EQE of 20.8% and a maximum current efficiency of 55.3 cd/A.
