4CzIPN (1,2,3,5-Tetrakis(carbazol-9-yl)-4,6-dicyanobenzene, CAS 1416881-52-1) is a donor–acceptor fluorophore and metal-free organophotocatalyst. This unsublimed grade (M2100B1) has a purity of >98% by 1H NMR and is supplied as an orange-yellow powder or crystals.
Its benzene core carries two cyano acceptor groups in meta positions and four carbazolyl donor groups. Among its three isomers, 4CzIPN shows the highest photoluminescence quantum yield, above 90%, which is linked to the broad spread of the HOMO across the donor units. It has a relatively short delayed-emission lifetime, and higher external quantum efficiency has been reported when it is used as the emitter in TADF-OLEDs.
Although poorly soluble in most aromatic solvents, it can be processed from solution in dichloromethane or chloroform, since steric hindrance twists the carbazole units. Published green OLEDs using 4CzIPN reached a maximum EQE of 29.6%.
