4CzIPN-tBu (CAS 1630263-99-8), chemically 2,4,5,6-tetrakis(3,6-di-tert-butylcarbazol-9-yl)-1,3-dicyanobenzene, is a yellow thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) material. It can serve as a solo emitter in TADF devices, as an assistant dopant or assistant host in hyperfluorescent OLEDs, and as a photocatalyst. The molecule is of the donor-acceptor type, with a dicyanobenzene core surrounded by tert-butyl-substituted carbazolyl groups.
Compared with 4CzIPN, its eight tert-butyl groups strengthen the carbazole donors, giving a slightly red-shifted absorption. The bulky periphery also adds steric hindrance, weakening intermolecular interactions in the solid state and suppressing polymerization, which enables stable electrogenerated chemiluminescence (ECL) with an efficiency close to 40% in dichloromethane.
In solution-processed hyperfluorescent devices with cibalackrot as the fluorescent emitter, 4CzIPN-tBu as TADF assistant host has delivered an EQE of 15.3%, as the tert-butyl groups keep neighbouring molecules apart and reduce triplet diffusion losses. It is supplied as an orange powder or crystals with unsublimed purity above 98.0% by 1H NMR.
- Solo yellow emitter in TADF OLED devices.
- TADF assistant host or dopant in solution-processed red hyperfluorescent OLEDs with cibalackrot emitters.
- Electrogenerated chemiluminescence (ECL) studies in dichloromethane.
- Photocatalyst for proton-coupled electron transfer reactions, such as the synthesis of phosphorylated N-heteroaromatics.
- Research on spin conversion and exciton dynamics in TADF materials.
