4CzPN, chemically 3,4,5,6-tetrakis(carbazol-9-yl)-1,2-dicyanobenzene (CAS 1416881-51-0), is a green-emitting thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) material for OLED research. It offers an alternative to the related green emitters 4CzIPN and 4CzTPN, with which it forms a set of three isomers in the carbazolyl benzonitrile (CBC) family, a group recognised for highly efficient TADF behaviour.
In this isomer the carbazolyl groups sit both adjacent to and opposite the nitrile groups, which is thought to give more delocalised orbital electrons than in its isomers. At the same time, crowding four bulky carbazolyl units side by side introduces steric hindrance that can limit their conjugation with the central benzene ring.
The orange powder/crystals absorb at λmax 315, 325 and 364 nm and emit at 528 nm in toluene, with a HOMO of 5.83 eV and LUMO of 3.38 eV. Reported devices include green OLEDs reaching a maximum EQE of 17.9% and white OLEDs with EQE up to 17.6%.
