4CzTPN-tBu (2,3,5,6-tetrakis(3,6-di-tert-butylcarbazol-9-yl)-1,4-dicyanobenzene, CAS 2153433-46-4) is an orange-emitting dopant for thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) OLEDs. It is the tert-butylated version of 4CzTPN, carrying eight bulky tert-butyl groups around its periphery that add steric hindrance and improve solubility in most common organic solvents, making it suitable for solution-processed devices.
Used as an orange emitter doped into the sky-blue TADF host TCP-BP-SFAC, 4CzTPN-tBu helped reach a record power efficiency of 130.7 lm W-1 in a white device. This result is attributed to the host's balanced ambipolar transport and high solid-state efficiency, together with reduced exciton quenching from the electron-trapping behaviour of 4CzTPN-tBu.
The material is supplied unsublimed with purity above 98.0% (1H NMR) as an orange powder or crystals. It is an isomer of 4CzPN-tBu and 4CzIPN-tBu.
- Orange dopant in the emitting layer of TADF OLEDs.
- Component of white TADF OLEDs combined with sky-blue TADF hosts such as TCP-BP-SFAC.
- Fabrication of solution-processed organic light-emitting devices thanks to its good solubility.
- Research into single-emissive-layer white OLEDs and energy transfer between TADF dopants.
