4TCzBN, or 2,3,5,6-Tetrakis(3,6-di-tert-butyl-9H-carbazol-9-yl)benzonitrile (CAS 2055722-93-3), is a thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) material from the carbazolyl benzonitrile family. It is employed in high-efficiency blue and white TADF-OLED devices and is supplied as a sublimed yellow powder/crystals with purity above 99.0% by 1H NMR.
Within the molecule, the carbazolyl groups act as electron donors and the nitrile group as an electron acceptor. The bulky tert-butyl units form a protective shell around the luminophore, keeping neighbouring molecules apart. This spacing is thought to lower the likelihood of triplet-polaron annihilation (TPA), which helps raise device efficiency and stability.
In reported sky-blue devices combining 4TCzBN with 2,4-2CzBN or 3,5-2CzBN in the emissive layer, maximum EQE values of 21.5% and 20.1% were achieved, with maximum power efficiencies of 42.0 lm/W and 34.5 lm/W respectively.
