5,5'-bis(trimethylstannyl)-2,2'-bithiophene (CAS 143367-56-0) is a bithiophene building block end-capped with trimethyltin groups. Supplied at >98% purity as white flakes, it serves as a monomer for making small molecules and semiconducting polymers used in OFETs, OLEDs, PLEDs and organic photovoltaics.
The compound is derived from 2,2'-bithiophene, an electron-rich donor unit when incorporated into low band-gap polymer semiconductors. Its trimethylstannyl end groups make it suited to Stille coupling polymerization. For example, coupling it with 4,9-dibromo-2,7-bis(2-octyldodecyl)-benzo[3,8]phenanthroline-1,3,6,8(2H,7H)-tetrone gives PNDI2OD-T2, a heavily n-dopable π-conjugated redox polymer.
Ossila has also used this monomer in its own laboratory to prepare PDPP4T and the n-type polymer DPPDPyBT. Available in 1 g and 5 g pack sizes.
