5,5'-(Pyridine-3,5-diyl)diisophthalic acid, also known as H4PyDIP (CAS 1433029-60-7), is a rigid tetracarboxylic acid linker used to build metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). Its structure places a central pyridine spacer between two isophthalic acid groups, giving a bridging ligand from the biphenylpyridine family. Ossila supplies it at >98% purity as an off white powder or crystal.
In lanthanide MOFs of the type [(CH3)2NH2]2[Ln2(L)2(H2O)2]·2DMF·2H2O, this ligand gives frameworks that can selectively sense polychlorinated benzenes and detect Fe3+ ions with high sensitivity (KSV = 7.58 × 10^4 M–1).
Combined with 1H-tetrazole in the Zn(II) framework [Me2NH2][Zn2(PyDIP)(HTZ)]·4DMF, it yields a porous material with two kinds of 1D open channels. The pores are lined with uncoordinated N atoms and carboxylic O atoms, creating a highly polar environment suited to selective CO2 adsorption.
