5-Cyano-2-fluoropyridine (CAS 3939-12-6), also known as 6-fluoronicotinonitrile, is a fluorinated heterocyclic building block carrying a fluorine atom at the 2-position and a nitrile group at the 5-position of the pyridine ring. Supplied as white crystals with a purity of 97%, it is aimed at drug discovery, bioimaging dye work and biochemistry research.
Having more than one reactive group makes this compound convenient for straightforward synthetic routes. In medicinal chemistry it serves as the starting material for an anti-cancer Ube2T inhibitor: nucleophilic aromatic substitution with pyrrolidine is followed by a Pinner reaction that forms the amidine moiety.
It is also used to make pyridine-substituted diketopyrrolopyrroles (DPPs) with diisopropyl succinate. These pyridine-DPPs show absorption and emission bands that are bathochromically shifted, which is of interest for dye and imaging research.
- Synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) in drug discovery programmes.
- Preparation of an anti-cancer Ube2T inhibitor via nucleophilic aromatic substitution and a Pinner reaction.
- Synthesis of pyridine-substituted diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) dyes with red-shifted absorption and emission.
- Development of dyes for bioimaging and use in biochemistry research.
