These stainless steel shims fit the Ossila 50 mm standard slot die head and set the width of the film laid down during slot die coating. Each pack contains five shims cut to a predefined coating width, and they are offered in 0.1 mm and 0.05 mm thicknesses.
A slot die head relies on a shim to determine how wide the coated stripe will be. Beyond defining width, shims can also serve as spacers between the sections of the head, altering the internal pressure so that higher flow rates can be achieved. The shims suit inks and solutions across a viscosity range of 0 – 1000 cPs.
Where a standard width does not fit the job, custom shim designs are available, including layouts that produce several coated strips at once. The shims work alongside other slot die accessories such as meniscus guides, which help sharpen the edges of the deposited film.
- Setting the coating width of films deposited with an Ossila 50 mm slot die head.
- Adjusting coating volume by selecting different shim widths and thicknesses.
- Spacing the sections of a slot die head to change internal pressure for higher flow rates.
- Producing multi-strip coatings using custom shim designs.
