5CzBN, or 2,3,4,5,6-penta(carbazol-9-yl)benzonitrile (CAS 1469700-24-0), is a blue dopant that emits light-blue fluorescence through thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF). It is a common choice for researchers fabricating high-efficiency TADF-OLEDs.
The molecule carries five bulky, electron-donating carbazolyl groups crowded around a central benzonitrile ring, which makes it strongly sterically hindered. It absorbs at 325 nm, 348 nm and 420 nm in DCM and emits at 488 nm in toluene, with a HOMO of 5.55 eV, a LUMO of 2.74 eV and a T1 of 2.68 eV.
The material is a yellow powder or crystals and comes in two grades: unsublimed at >98% and sublimed at >99.0% purity (1H NMR). In reported blue devices using an mCBP host, 5CzBN reached a maximum EQE of 18.0% and a power efficiency of 49.9 lm/W.
