7-Fluoroindole (7-Fluoro-1H-indole, CAS 387-44-0) is a fluorinated heterocyclic building block based on indole, the ring system formed when benzene is fused to pyrrole. Supplied by Ossila as an off-white powder with a purity above 98%, it serves as an intermediate for preparing active pharmaceutical ingredients, dyes and polyindoles used in drug discovery, OLEDs, DSSCs and battery research.
In microbiology, the compound has been shown to reduce swarming motility, protease activity and polymeric matrix production in the opportunistic pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This anti-virulence effect comes from lowering quorum sensing related phenotypes. It has also been employed in 19F NMR studies of binding affinity to R67 dihydrofolate reductase, an enzyme that confers resistance to the antibacterial drug trimethoprim.
For materials work, oxidative polymerization of 7-fluoroindole yields polyindole, a conducting polymer. Polyindole/LiClO4/Li batteries have shown discharge capacities of 116–124 mAh/g at a current density of 0.5 A/m2.
- Synthesis intermediate for active pharmaceutical ingredients in drug discovery.
