8-Quinolinolato lithium (Liq, CAS 25387-93-3) is a light yellow organolithium powder used as an electron injection layer (EIL) material in organic electronic devices, most often OLEDs. Paired with an aluminium electrode, a very thin Liq film of only 1-2 nm is usually enough to inject electrons efficiently from the cathode into the electron transport layer (ETL).
The Liq/Al combination is well established as an effective cathode system for common ETL materials, and ultrathin Liq interlayers have been reported to substantially improve the operational stability of light-emitting diodes. Published device stacks using Liq include white, blue, deep blue, green and greenish-blue OLEDs, among them a green device reaching a maximum EQE of 41.3%.
Ossila supplies Liq in a sublimed grade with >99% purity, purified by sublimation for ultra-pure material, and an unsublimed grade with >98% purity. The compound has a HOMO of 5.58 eV and LUMO of 3.15 eV, a melting point of 366-368 ºC and a decomposition temperature of at least 430 °C (5% weight loss).
