9,10-Bis(4-formylphenyl)anthracene, often abbreviated BFPA (CAS 324750-99-4), is an aldehyde-functional linker used to assemble covalent organic frameworks (COFs) and related porous materials. Its structure places a 4-formylphenyl group on each of the 9 and 10 positions of an anthracene core, and the two aldehyde groups react readily, making it a convenient building block for cross-linked networks. It is supplied at >98% purity as a white to off-white powder or crystals.
Anthracene derivatives are known for their role with singlet oxygen (1O2). In the Por-DPA-COF framework, BFPA links porphyrin photosensitizer nodes, capturing singlet oxygen under irradiation and releasing it in the dark; the material showed photothermal and photodynamic antibacterial behaviour that supported wound healing in reported work.
BFPA has also been condensed with pyrrole to give a luminescent conjugated microporous polymer, AP-CMP, whose extended structure avoids aggregation-related quenching. This polymer detected nitrofuran antibiotics by fluorescence quenching, with detection limits of 0.62 ppm for nitrofurazone, 0.67 ppm for nitrofurantoin and 0.77 ppm for furazolidone.
