9,9-Bis(4-aminophenyl)fluorene (FDA), CAS 15499-84-0, is a fluorene-based diamine monomer in which two aminophenyl groups sit on the 9-position of the fluorene core. Supplied by Ossila at >99% purity as a white to pale yellow powder or crystal, it serves as an intermediate for polyimides and organic semiconductors used in high-performance polymers, solar cells and fuel cell membranes.
Its two amine groups make FDA a common monomer for polyimides with high thermal stability (T d5% = 530 °C) and good hydrolytic stability, properties exploited in coatings for optical fiber light guides. Because the molecule is not fully aromatized, it is a preferred choice for thermally stable, transparent polyimides. The resulting polyimide backbone is chemically robust, so the fluorene unit can be further modified through Friedel-Crafts alkylation.
FDA is also partially conjugated, and it has been developed into dopant-free organic hole transporting materials for inverted perovskite solar cells, reaching an overall efficiency of 15.9%.
- Monomer for synthesizing polyimides with high thermal and hydrolytic stability.
- Building block for colourless, thermally stable transparent polyimide films.
- Precursor for polyimide coatings on optical fiber light guides.
- Starting material for dopant-free hole transporting materials in inverted perovskite solar cells.
- Intermediate for polymers used in fuel cell membranes and high-performance polymer research.
