9-Bromoanthracene (CAS 1564-64-3, C14H9Br) is anthracene carrying a single bromine atom at the 9-position. It serves as an important building block for preparing anthracene-based polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) used in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) and related organic semiconductor research.
Derivatives made from this intermediate have been reported in high-performing devices. A non-doped device built on the 9-bromoanthracene-derived emitter DCPA-TPA produced near-infrared emission peaking at 838 nm, with a maximum radiance of 20707 mW Sr-1 m-2 in the optimised structure. In another study, a doped device using 3,6-di(anthracen-9-yl)-9-phenyl-9H-carbazole (P-DAC) as host reached luminance efficiency of 7.70 cd A-1 and external quantum efficiency of 4.86%, with CIE coordinates (0.156, 0.136).
Beyond optoelectronics, photodimers of 9-bromoanthracene act as alkyl halide initiators for atom transfer radical polymerisation (ATRP). Ossila supplies the material at >98% purity (1H NMR) as yellow to orange powder or crystals, in 10 g, 25 g, 50 g and 100 g packs.
