The Ossila L3009K1 air knife is an accessory for controlling how films dry when they are coated on Ossila automatic thin film applicator based equipment. It works with the company's automatic thin film applicators, bar coaters and blade coaters, delivering a 225mm wide air curtain across the freshly deposited film.
An adjustable mounting bracket lets users set both the distance between the knife and the film and the angle of the air curtain, so drying conditions can be tuned for each process. Height can be adjusted over 20 mm. A 4 mm push-fit adapter connects the knife quickly to a compressed air line or a pressurized gas supply, such as nitrogen for inert gas quenching.
The body is made from black anodized aluminum 7065. Its design relies on the Coandă effect: air leaving the slit between the two halves of the knife follows the convex curved surface, creating a pressure drop that draws in surrounding air. As a result, the flow in the air curtain is greater than the flow leaving the slit.
- Controlling the drying of thin films produced on automatic thin film applicators.
- Optimizing drying conditions on bar coaters and blade coaters by adjusting air curtain angle and distance.
- Inert gas quenching of coated films using a pressurized nitrogen supply.
- Drying coated films with a compressed air line.
