The Ossila Air Knife is an add-on for the Ossila Slot Die Coater that lets you control how freshly coated films dry. It is offered in two versions, Standard and High Precision, and both fit the 50 mm and 100 mm slot die heads. The unit connects to a compressed air line or a pressurised gas supply such as nitrogen for inert gas quenching, using a 4 mm push-fit adapter on the Standard model or a 6 mm push-fit adapter on the High Precision model.
The Standard version mounts on the slot die head with an adjustable bracket, so the air curtain angle and its distance from the substrate can be set. Its shape uses the Coandă effect: air leaving the slit follows a convex curved surface and draws in surrounding air, giving a stronger flow in the curtain than at the slit itself.
The High Precision version has an overlapping lip and interchangeable shims that set the quenching width. This reduces turbulence and air backflow and gives an even stream along the full length, which helps produce uniformly quenched films over large areas. It sits on a separate mounting system with a Z-axis Tension System and Geared Clamp Design, so the quenching gap, angle and distance from the head can be set over a wider range without sagging. The air knife works only with counterbore slot die heads.

Use the air knife only with counterbore slot die heads, and check that the clamping screws of the head are counterbored before fitting. Keep the supply within the rated inlet pressure: 2 to 6 Bar for the Standard model and up to 7 Bar for the High Precision model.
