Ossila M2400B1 is an aluminum oxide (Al2O3, CAS 1344-28-1) nanopowder, also called alumina, supplied as a white powder with an average particle size of 20 nm and a purity of ≥ 99.99%. It is offered in 50 g, 100 g and 250 g packs for research and process development.
Alumina ranks among the most widely used metal oxides in industry, as it is abundant and inexpensive to produce. In nanopowder form it combines a high melting point (2040 °C, lit.), high hardness and amphoteric behaviour. Aluminum oxide is also inert to most acids and alkalis, provides electrical insulation and resists both oxidizing and reducing atmospheres up to 1000 °C.
These properties make alumina nanopowder useful as a catalyst support, desiccant and adsorbent. It is also used as an additive in concrete, cosmetics and textiles. In perovskite solar cells, its electrical resistance allows an alumina scaffold to suppress charge recombination, block moisture and support a thicker light-absorber layer.
- Support material for catalysts in chemical and petrochemical processing.
- Desiccant and adsorbent, including research on removing heavy-metal ions from water.
- Scaffold layer in perovskite solar cells to reduce charge recombination and moisture ingress.
- Additive in concrete mixtures, cosmetics and textile products.
- Antibacterial agent in biomedical research.
- Reinforcement in aluminum matrix composites.
