B3PymPm (4,6-Bis(3,5-di(pyridin-3-yl)phenyl)-2-methylpyrimidine, CAS 925425-96-3) is an organic semiconductor used in OLED fabrication as an electron-transport layer (ETL) or hole-blocking layer (HBL) material. Its structure is built on a 2-methylpyrimidine core carrying four pyridine pendant groups, and it is an isomer of B2PymPm and B4PymPm.
The molecule is electron-deficient, which suits it to moving electrons and confining holes within a device stack. B3PymPm forms hydrogen bonds both within and between molecules, and these interactions are thought to improve film morphology and, in turn, charge mobility.
Combined with TCTA, B3PymPm acts as an exciplex-forming co-host in thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) devices for highly efficient fluorescent OLEDs. It is offered in sublimed (>99.0%, HPLC) and unsublimed (>98.0%) grades as white crystals or powder.
