B3PyPB, or 1,3-Bis(3,5-dipyrid-3-ylphenyl)benzene (CAS 1030380-38-1), is an organic semiconductor applied as an electron-transport layer (ETL) and hole-blocking layer (HBL) in OLED fabrication. It is also known as BmPyPB or BmPyPhB and is supplied as a sublimed white powder or crystals with purity above 99.0% by HPLC.
Its four pyridyl groups make the molecule electron deficient, giving it high electron mobility. A deep HOMO level of 6.60 eV allows it to block holes effectively, while a LUMO of 2.60 eV suits electron injection and transport.
With a triplet energy of 2.77 eV, B3PyPB helps prevent triplet quenching of emitter molecules in phosphorescent OLEDs, which raises external quantum efficiency. Reported devices using it include blue, green and white OLEDs, among them a tandem blue phosphorescent structure reaching an EQE of 41.1% at 100 cd/m2.
- Electron-transport layer in OLED devices.
- Hole-blocking layer to confine holes within the emissive zone.
- Suppressing triplet quenching in phosphorescent OLEDs (PhOLEDs) to raise external quantum efficiency.
- Electron-transport layer in TADF-based OLEDs, including blue and green devices.
- Research on high-efficiency blue, green and white OLED stacks, including multi-photon tandem structures.
