B4PymPm (4,6-Bis(3,5-di(pyridin-4-yl)phenyl)-2-methylpyrimidine, CAS 1030380-51-8) is an electron-deficient organic semiconductor used as an electron-transport layer (ETL) or hole-blocking layer (HBL) material in OLEDs and photovoltaic devices such as perovskite solar cells. It is built on a 2-methylpyrimidine core carrying four pyridine groups and is an isomer of B2PymPm and B3PymPm.
Intermolecular hydrogen bonding drives the molecules to lie flat, parallel to the substrate, with strong anisotropy. The resulting dense molecular packing and large π-orbital overlap in thin films can markedly improve charge-carrier mobility and transport.
Ossila supplies B4PymPm as sublimed white crystals or powder with a purity above 99.0% by HPLC. Sublimation is used to reach ultra-pure grade material suited to device fabrication. The compound has been reported in blue, white and yellow OLED structures, including white devices reaching a maximum EQE of 28.1%.
- Electron-transport layer in organic light-emitting diodes.
- Hole-blocking layer between the emissive layer and cathode in OLED stacks.
- Co-host component in phosphorescent blue and white OLED emissive layers.
- Electron-transporting layer material in photovoltaics such as perovskite solar cells.
