BBT-2C6ThBr (4,8-bis(5-bromo-4-hexylthiophene)-benzo[1,2-c;4,5-c']bis[1,2,5] thiadiazole, also known as BBTT6) is a high-purity monomer used to build extremely low band gap polymers for organic field-effect transistors (OFETs). It has served as the starting unit for polymers such as PBBTSD and PBBTPD, whose absorption reaches 1200 nm with an onset at 2030 nm.
The molecule carries two electron-withdrawing benzothiadiazole units, making it strongly electron deficient. This character suits it to ambipolar low band gap polymers, in which both holes and electrons can be injected easily. Bromide end groups on the thiophene rings allow straightforward coupling reactions during polymerisation.
Supplied as a blueish green solid with a purity above 98%, BBT-2C6ThBr is also a benzothiadiazole building block for OLED and organic photovoltaic material synthesis.
