BCPO, or Bis-4-(N-carbazolyl)phenyl)phenylphosphine oxide (CAS 1233407-28-7), is a bipolar host material for organic light-emitting diodes. Ossila supplies it in sublimed grade with a purity above 99% (HPLC), as white crystals or powder.
Its structure pairs an electron-withdrawing phenylphosphine oxide unit with two electron-donating carbazolyl groups. Because the central phosphine oxide interrupts electronic communication between the two N-phenyl carbazole groups, BCPO reaches a triplet energy of 3.01 eV, considerably higher than that of CBP. A glass transition temperature of 137 °C adds thermal robustness to deposited films.
Similar to CBP and mCBP, BCPO works as a universal host for blue, green and red emitters, both fluorescent and phosphorescent, and lends itself to simple device architectures. Published devices using BCPO include phosphorescent and TADF OLEDs, with a green Ir(ppy)3 device reaching 97.6 cd/A and a TADF green device reaching an EQE of 30.9%.
- Host layer for blue, green and red phosphorescent OLEDs.
- Host matrix for fluorescent emitters in OLED devices.
- Host for thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) emitters such as AC-DBNA and TAT-3DBTO2 derivatives.
- Emissive layer material in simplified OLED device architectures.
- Research in organic printed electronics.
