BCzTPA, or 4,4'-(9H,9'H-3,3'-Bicarbazole-9,9'-diyl)bis(N,N-diphenylaniline), is an electron-rich carbazole derivative supplied by Ossila as a sublimed host material for phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes (PhOLEDs). It is a white powder or crystalline solid with a purity above 99.0% by HPLC.
Structurally, BCzTPA is closely related to BCzPh: both are built on a 3,3'-bicarbazole core, but BCzTPA carries triphenylamine groups at the 9H and 9H' positions where BCzPh has phenyl groups. With a HOMO of 5.60 eV and a LUMO of 2.20 eV, it serves well as a host for green, blue and white phosphorescent emitters.
Reported green PhOLEDs using 17 wt% Ir(ppy)3 doped into BCzTPA reach 5000 cd/m2 below 3 V, demonstrating very low operating voltage. Because it is electron-rich, BCzTPA is also a candidate electron donor for forming exciplexes, either as the emitting layer or as a host in efficient fluorescent and phosphorescent OLEDs.
- Host material for green phosphorescent OLEDs doped with Ir(ppy)3 for low-voltage operation.
- Co-host with BCzTPh in solution-processed blue PhOLEDs using FIrpic.
- Co-host in solution-processed white OLEDs combining several iridium emitters.
- Electron donor for exciplex formation in emitting layers or host systems of fluorescent and phosphorescent OLEDs.
