BD-1 is a blue fluorescent emitter built on a pyrene core, supplied in sublimed grade with purity above 99.0% (HPLC). Chemically it is N1,N6-bis(dibenzo[b,d]furan-4-yl)-3,8-diisopropyl-N1,N6-bis(4-isopropylphenyl)pyrene-1,6-diamine (CAS 1252914-27-4), also known as BDFDPPDA, NFDIP or TCNBD03, and it appears as an off-white powder or crystals.
The molecule is symmetrical: a 3,8-diisopropyl-1,6-diamine-pyrene centre carries dibenzo[b,d]furan and 4-isopropylphenyl end groups. Its four isopropyl groups improve solubility and help suppress excimer quenching. With a HOMO of -5.52 eV and a LUMO of -2.78 eV, it is typically doped into the anthracene host 1,2-ADN, where triplet–triplet annihilation raises the external quantum efficiency of fluorescent OLEDs.
In top-emission OLEDs that replace ITO with a silver layer, BD-1 used as the blue emitting layer has reached 139.9 cd/A/CIEy at 10 mA/cm2. Bottom-emitting test devices with 5 wt% BD-1 in 1,2-ADN have shown maximum EQE of 9.3–9.5% and current efficiency up to 11.5 cd/A.
