Ossila M2407A1 is a bismuth trioxide (Bi2O3, CAS 1304-76-3) nanopowder with purity above 99.99%. It is supplied as an off-white powder of spherical particles in the monoclinic α phase, with particle sizes of 75-195 nm and an average of about 130 nm. Researchers use it in sensors, optical coatings and anode materials for lithium-ion batteries.
Bismuth oxide is valued for its stability, low toxicity and photocatalytic activity. The material exists in six polymorphs; the monoclinic α phase is stable at ambient temperature and transforms into the cubic δ phase, which contains random oxygen vacancies, above 710 °C. At 300 K the α phase has a band gap of 2.85 eV.
For energy storage, Bi2O3 offers a high theoretical capacity of 690 mA h g−1, making it a candidate anode for lithium-ion cells and a component in supercapacitor electrode composites. Its band gap range of 2.1 - 3.9 eV allows efficient visible-light absorption, while lattice oxygen vacancies generate reactive oxygen species useful in antibacterial studies and pollutant degradation.
