Ossila black phosphorus crystal (CAS 7723-14-0) is a bulk crystalline form of elemental phosphorus supplied as individual crystals. It is a starting material for preparing single-layer or few-layer phosphorene sheets by mechanical or liquid exfoliation, giving researchers access to two-dimensional nanosheets and nanoparticles.
As a 2D semiconductor with an orthorhombic C structure, black phosphorus has a bandgap that can be tuned between 0.3 eV and 1.5 eV by changing the number of layers, while the bandgap stays direct at any film thickness, an advantage over transition metal dichalcogenides. Ultrathin black phosphorus responds strongly to incident light, making it attractive for very fast photodetectors working from the ultraviolet to the near-infrared.
The crystals are offered in purity grades of ≥99.995% and ≥99.999%, in several sizes, for work in transistors, optoelectronics, sensors, batteries and catalysis.
