This Ossila black phosphorus crystal is a bulk source material for preparing phosphorene, the single- or few-layer form of black phosphorus. Sheets can be obtained by mechanical exfoliation or by liquid exfoliation, giving anything from multilayer flakes down to monolayer nanosheets or nanoparticles.
Black phosphorus is a two-dimensional semiconductor with an orthorhombic structure. Its bandgap, between 0.3 eV and 1.5 eV, shifts with the number of layers yet stays direct at every thickness, which sets it apart from transition metal dichalcogenides. Because thin black phosphorus responds strongly to incident light, it is a candidate for very fast photodetectors working from the ultraviolet to the near infrared.
The crystals are supplied as individual pieces in purity grades of ≥99.995% and ≥99.999%, offered either by defined dimensions or by minimum area.
