Ossila black phosphorus crystal (CAS 7723-14-0) is a bulk, high purity form of elemental phosphorus supplied as individual crystals. It serves as a starting material for producing phosphorene, the single or few-layer form of black phosphorus, through either mechanical or liquid exfoliation.
Black phosphorus is a 2D semiconductor with an orthorhombic structure. Its bandgap, spanning 0.3 eV ~ 1.5 eV, changes with the number of layers yet stays direct at any film thickness, an advantage over transition metal dichalcogenides. Ultrathin black phosphorus responds strongly to incident light, making it a candidate for ultra-fast photodetectors working from the ultraviolet to the near infrared.
The crystals are offered in purities of ≥99.995% and ≥99.999% and in several sizes, suiting exfoliation into multilayer to single layer nanosheets or nanoparticles for transistors, optoelectronics, sensors, batteries and catalysis.
- Mechanical or liquid exfoliation to produce single or few-layer phosphorene sheets.
- Fabrication of transistors based on 2D black phosphorus nanosheets.
- Development of ultra-fast photodetectors covering ultraviolet to near infrared wavelengths.
- Research on gas sensors and other sensing devices.
- Studies of next generation batteries and catalysis using black phosphorus nanomaterials.
