Ossila black phosphorus powder (CAS 7723-14-0) is a high purity 2D semiconductor material supplied as small needle- or sheet-like crystals. It is offered vacuum sealed at ≥99.995% purity or in a sealed ampoule at ≥99.999% purity, and is intended for research into next-generation electronics, optoelectronics and nanotechnology.
The crystals are produced by chemical vapor distribution. Researchers commonly use the powder as a starting material for black phosphorus quantum dots (BPQDs) and nano-platelets, made by sonication-assisted liquid exfoliation. Its purity also makes it suitable as a precursor in chemical vapor deposition for growing high-quality, atomically thin films.
In energy storage, black phosphorus offers a theoretical specific capacity roughly seven times that of graphite as a battery negative electrode material, so exfoliated powder and its composites can markedly enhance device performance. The material has an orthorhombic structure and a bandgap of 0.3 eV ~ 1.5 eV.
