Ossila M2014L4 is a grade of carboxylated single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT-COOH): oxidized SWCNTs carrying carboxylic acid groups on their surface. This grade has a diameter of 2 nm, a length of 5 – 20 μm, a COOH content of ca. 4.03 wt%, a specific surface area of 650 m2/g and a purity above 95%. It is supplied as a black fibrous powder.
The carboxylic acid groups make the nanotubes easier to disperse in solutions and polymer resins, through possible hydrogen bonding and chemical crosslinking. The material keeps the mechanical, electrical, optical and thermal performance of pristine SWCNTs. DI water, DMF, THF, ethanol and acetone are the recommended dispersants.
In published work, SWCNT-COOH has been used to disperse gold nanoparticles together with a CuMOF (HKUST-1) in an electrochemical sensor for imatinib in human blood serum, with a linear response over 0.05 – 20.0 μM. It has also served as a conductive additive for boron-silicon alloy anodes in lithium batteries. There it kept B-Si colloids stable in NMP and gave more than 80% capacity retention after 1000 cycles.
